More than 25,000 Antwerp families will be able to enjoy green electricity from the Port of Antwerp next year thanks to this investment of almost 50 million euros.

Antwerp, 7 June 2024 – The Wind voor “A” cooperative company received the fantastic news from Flemish Minister Zuhal Demir that it is allowed to install 7 new wind turbines in the Port of Antwerp. This represents an investment of almost 50 million euros. This gratifying announcement was made by Port of Antwerp-Bruges president Annick De Ridder at the General Assembly of Wind voor “A”. Annick De Ridder: ‘Wind energy plays a crucial role in our transition to a sustainable future. With these new wind turbines, we are taking a big step towards a greener and energy-independent city and port. The involvement of citizens through Wind voor “A” is invaluable here. Together, we are building a better future.”

Thanks to this permit, more than 25,000 Antwerp families will be able to enjoy green power from the Port of Antwerp next year. The cooperative company is very excited, as this provides another great opportunity for Antwerp residents to participate in this sustainable project. It will allow the number of citizen cooperants to double, from 1,590 to more than 3,000. These new wind turbines increase the number of operational turbines of VLEEMO, which will operate the wind turbines, to 45, enough to provide green energy to more than 140,000 families.
