The Aspiravi Group is developing the Corus wind energy project in Spain, a project of 10 wind turbines in Cantabria, good for an installed capacity of 66 MW. This project is the 1st wind energy project in which local residents of the municipalities involved, Ampuero, Guriezo, Liendo and Limpias, would be able to participate and thus also benefit from wind energy revenues.
The Aspiravi Group has been working in Belgium since 2010 with cooperatives through which local residents can co-invest in the wind energy projects in their neighbourhood. In Belgium, more than 13,000 citizens have already collectively invested more than 35 million euros in Aspiravi Group’s Belgian onshore wind energy projects.
The Aspiravi Group now wants to implement the same model of citizen participation in Spain so that in this way local community involvement grows, support for wind energy is supported and local, renewable energy production increases. For the Corus project, Cantabria/Spain would collaborate with a crowdfunding platform already active in Spain and approved there by the competent National Commission.
The Corus wind energy project involves an investment of EUR 63 million, of which more than EUR 14 million will have a direct impact on companies in Cantabria, including for civil and electromechanical works.
For the Corus project, the Aspiravi Group is collaborating with Spanish company Arba Energías Renovables, which specialises in developing renewable energy projects. Currently, the various municipal councils and districts involved are being informed in detail about the project. Public information events will be organised in the next phase.
